Valley Star Newspaper,The Crown Magazine & Student Journalists Wins State Awards
LAVC'sValley Star student run newspaper,The Crownstudent magazine, and several student journalists recently won awards at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges statewide conference.
The Valley Star won General Excellence—its highest award—for its online publication,thevalleystarnews.com. The Star was one of five publications to win the award, competing against some 30 colleges from around the state.The Crown, Valley College’s magazine, also won General Excellence.
LAVC student journalists took home two first place, three second place, two third place, three fourth place and one honorable mention in the individual awards competition.The following is a full list of individual award winners:

Spring Break
Saturday, April 2 - Friday, April 8
Spring Break 2022 is held from April 2-8. In addition, there is Cesar Chavez holiday on Thursday, March 31 and a non-instruction day on Friday, April 1. Classes are not in session during Spring Break, but some campus offices and services are scheduled to be open. Please contact offices directly to learn their Spring Break hours of operation. Saturday classes resume on Saturday, April 9, and day and evening classes resumes on Monday, April 11. The college will resume its normal hours of operation on Monday, April 11.

Please join the LAVC Art Department for an Art Faculty Lecture Series with Professors David Bishop and Jenene Nagy on April 13 on Zoom. This event is open to all LAVC students. Art faculty present their work and research. Student participants are invited to make an artwork in response to the lecture, which will be included in the 2022 Annual Student Art exhibition hosted by the LAVC Art Gallery.
